Meet Catherine and Carl
In 1987 my Mother gave me a graduation gift of a Pentax K1000 that started it all. I started the business in 1990 and began working with friends and family to share my love of photography. Over the next ten years, I gained more experience taking classes, attending seminars, and even broadened my horizons by taking a photography trip to Italy. All while working my photography business from home and raising my three children. I proudly accepted my first photography award from the Professional Photographers Association which was published in the 2013 International Photographic Competition. In 2000 as the business grew I was able to open my first studio in Coventry, RI.
In 2006 I married my best friend Carl and gained two more beautiful children to complete our Brady Bunch of Hellman-Horrocks. Carl retired from a local police department after 20 years of service in 2008. Carl immediately began working with me. Carl was trained in forensic photography at URI through the police department. We have fun working together and love what we do. Our experience, knowledge, and passion for photography shine through every session.
In 2017 we decided to close our sticks and bricks studio and do all our work on location. The five children became adults and we decided to downsize our home base and travel in the winters. There is not much opportunity for location photography in New England in the winter so we go south with our RV. There is nothing better than traveling and best of all we can include our labrador, Bailey.
In 1963 Carl's parents bought a house in Camden, Maine. It has been his dream to spend more time there so we spread our time between Rhode Island and Maine. If you haven't been to Camden we highly recommend a visit. We now offer photography in Rhode Island and Mid-Coast Maine. During our winter travels to the south, we offer select area photography.
Award Winning Photographer
In 2013, I received my first photography award from the Professional Photographers Association. The image, named "Bella," was selected from a pool of over 3000 images and was published in the 2013 International Photographic Competition Journal. It was taken during my trip to Venice, Italy in 1998.
I remember that morning vividly, as if it was only a few years ago. It was a beautiful Saturday morning around 9 am, and I was walking along a canal. Suddenly, I noticed a gondola approaching with a bride on board, on her way to get married. As I looked around to see who else was watching, I noticed a woman standing on the balcony of a nearby building. I couldn't help but wonder if she was reminiscing about her own special day from long ago.
What we love besides our photography
First on our list would be spending quality time with our five adult children and grandchildren. We are huge Disney fans and even got married there in 2006. We love all the rides and enjoy all the delicious snacks and the magic Disney has to offer. In Maine, we love bass fishing, hiking, and cruising on our pontoon boat. We also enjoy visiting new restaurants, pubs, wineries, and breweries. Obviously, I love taking photographs, so yes, I'm that person who takes pictures of food and unique beverages. In 2018, we began our RV adventures and have traveled as far as Texas. It's fun to have our condominium on wheels and travel to warmer states during the winter. Best of all, we can take our photography with us wherever we go.
